Just a note, that - from what I've seen in my son who began to show all of the above symptoms beginning a year and more ago, some of these symptoms over lap with Bipolar Disorder. My son did experience trauma at a young age and did not act out the symptoms until his teens. He also had hallucinations which caused us to get him examained. Now, professionals are not sure if he has PTSD or Bipolar Disorder. This is tricky stuff, that I am told, time will tell. We are into this 6 months. Luckily, medication, counseling, watching nutrition and keeping a routine in lifestyle have all helped tremendously.

this is very useful even i don't have P.T.S.D. I suffer from depressions since i was a kid, mine is more of something i born with. in Spanish is called "ENDOGENA" not sure in English how is call. I'm doing great since 5 years ago when i received the right treatment.. Always i better read and learn from the doctors and just simple blogs from people that sometimes don't have a clue what they're talking about. Thanks doctor for this info...

Well, I am at 54 now, but considering I was at 74 eight months ago I guess that's not too bad, LOL! The hard part of PTSD when it is bad is that it's often accompanied by depression, anxiet and physical issues such as chronic fatigue, anorexia, chronic pain... Trying to get it all figured out, never mind treated appropriately, can be tough and take a long time, which can really make things worse because it adds to the stress and anxiety. Good luck to everyone struggling to cope and heal!

A good friend of mine is a neurologist and she has left her private practice to work full time at the Veteran's Admin. She said the amount of head injuries incurred from this war is horrendous... and they are also seeing a huge problem with PTSD and other mental illnesses in veterans from Iraq.. moreso than all other wars combined!! This will have an impact on our society for many years to come so it is something we all need to learn about so we can help veterans deal with it effectively.

I believe that the long ago past can creep up and you re-live those bad times ...dealing with them, even as an adult, is still difficult!

Hey Gilteeegirl....there won't be enough therapists around to help all the soldiers who need help when they return from duty. They are still trying to heal the Vietnam vets. Inner wounds take longer to heal than outer ones do. I agree we all need to learn about these things.

hello i was just wondering i grew up with an abusive/alcoholic father and now even when i dont want to think about all the tramatic things that happened in my life the scenarios seem to just pop up in my head constantly, this has been going on for many many years now and i cry almost every night thinking about these things...for the past year or so now i have been getting a sharp pain which feels like its in my heart ... and i was just wondering could this depression have anything to do with my "sharp pains" ?
